A Model for Education: Behavior Analysis, Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching

This course prepares participants to teach fundamental literacy skills to students (children or adults) on the autism spectrum and individuals at risk of school failure.

The Maloney Method combines five behavioral approaches first synthesized by Michael Maloney, and Eric and Elizabeth Haughton beginning 45 years ago in Belleville. Ontario, Canada. 

The Maloney Method was created as a method of learning objectives, student management, direct Instruction, measurement and practice. It has been successfully implemented to teach more than 100,000 students at-risk of school failure over the past five decades. It has been used with a wide spectrum of students despite their condition, age, labels and deficits and is quickly and easily learned, especially for those with a behavioral background.

The course is offered synchronously online as a series of six course modules over a 12 week period. Each presentation is followed by a synchronous lab section (one hour minimum) with Michael Maloney. The course modules, taken together, constitute training in the six components of the Maloney Method instructional model for behavioral teaching. Courses are available as a complete series presented in a specific order so that the registrants and their charges receive all the components of the behavioral model in an easily applied order. Lessons, worksheets, hands-on projects and data-based case studies are included as part of the presentations and labs.

The course is eligible for 12 BACB Type II CEUs.

About the Instructor: Michael Maloney is an educator, researcher, writer and speaker with more than 50 years of hands-on experience in both the private and public education sectors. He has used this experience to pursue his dream of sharing his highly effective teaching methods with people around the world. With 40 years of teaching experience and 34 books to his credit, Michael Maloney was also named Canada's Literacy Education of the year in 2001.

About the Co-Instructor: Salvador “Sal” Ruiz is a Ph.D., BCBA and has been using the Standard Celeration Chart (SCC) for seven years. He has worked with students from ages 5-27, including typically developing and learners with developmental disabilities. Sal has worked in various setting using the principles of Behavior Analysis and Precision Teaching. Research interests include challenging behavior, Organizational Behavior Management, functions of behavior, and training.
